UNITED NATIONS: OCEAN DECADE – Develop a Global Public Engagement Campaign
In his previous role as Communications and Campaigns Coordinator for the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030), Vinicius was tasked with developing a global campaign that could accompany the global launch of the Ocean Decade in 2021-2022 and could help solve the lack of public awareness and engagement with ocean issues, particularly among youth. The campaign needed to inspire and mobilize individuals, especially young people, to take action for ocean conservation and sustainability. It should reach diverse audiences across different countries and cultures, using creative and innovative approaches to communicate complex ocean science concepts and encourage behavioral change.
The resulting Ocean Decade GenOcean Campaign was an ambitious 2-year global initiative designed to transform the way people understand and value the ocean. Through digital storytelling, social media engagement, and on-the-ground activities, GenOcean sought to create a new generation of ocean advocates, encouraging citizens to take specific actions for ocean health and track their impact.
By leveraging the power of digital media, GenOcean reached over three million people in over 100 countries, fostering a global community of new ocean actors committed to achieving the goals of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
